Allen Dean Voorhies Jr., age 85, passed away peacefully at home with family, in Yuma, AZ, on Sunday July 21, 2024. Allen was born on June 24, 1939, to Allen Dean Voorhies and Vivian LaDell Baucum Voorhies. Allen grew up in Vernal, UT and graduated from Uintah High School. After attending Weber State University, he married Marva Adelia Murray of Vernal, UT.
Allen enjoyed contributing to the community and was a volunteer fireman for the Bountiful Fire Department of Bountiful, UT. For many years he was an active member and volunteer of Vernal Search and Rescue. He was a Lifetime member of the Vernal Elks Lodge. A Past Mason of Vernal, UT, and member of the Yuma Moose Lodge. During his law enforcement career, he served as Deputy Sherriff of Uintah County and later an investigator with the Department of Transportation for the Utah Highway Patrol.
He and his wife, Marva, loved the outdoors and the time they could spend camping and hunting with their family and friends, especially their time together at their cabin on the mountain. Allen enjoyed life and fun laughter, always sharing a funny phrase that made you smile or a funny joke. He never met a stranger and enjoyed a lifetime of adventures with his family and lifelong friends, a few favorites were 4 wheeling with his jeep, snowmobiling, river running, hunting, and riding in the sand dunes of Arizona. He so loved spending time with his grandchildren, to whom he was a special mentor and a best friend; they’d go fishing, rock hunting and riding ATVs together.
Before retirement Allen was an entrepreneur and built the Big Forker Company. He contracted with several Oil producing companies and the National Forest Service, giving him the opportunity to work outdoors in the beautiful valleys and mountains of eastern Utah.
When Allen and Marva retired, they continued to enjoy the beautiful summers in Vernal and wintered in Tucson, AZ. After her passing Allen moved to Yuma AZ, he never remarried, and later became a full-time resident there where he continued enjoying his passion for four-wheeling, golfing and photography.
