Betty Young

On May 31, 2018 Betty Jean Merz Young, age 91, passed peacefully through the veil, at the home of her son, Wayne Young, in Orem, UT, to be with her husband, Robert Milton Young. She was born 21 January, 1927, to the late John Matthew Merz and the late Myrtle O’Dessa Redshaw in Panora, Iowa. She was one of 13 children.

Betty met her late husband in Blanding, UT, and was married 28 May 1946. She is survived by her eight children: Anne Elizabeth Iverson of Layton, UT; Catherine Clara Atherton of Lapoint, UT; Robert Kelly Young of Vernal, UT; Karen Sue Pendrake of Draper, UT; Wayne Arthur Young of Orem, UT; Sherri Nadine Donohoo of Payson, UT; Joseph Matthew Young of Sandy, UT; and Shelley Marie Wooley of Taylorsville, UT. She is survived by three of her sisters: Bertha ‘Babe’ Leffel; Carolyn Black; and Lois ‘Nadine’ Schear. She is also survived by 43 grandchildren, 73 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

Betty always supported and worked with her husband in all of his different endeavors in many places, doing the accounting, running the snack bar at the drive-in theater, whatever was needed. She lived in Iowa, Colorado, Montana, Arizona, Kansas and Utah. She enjoyed working over 12 years at JCPenneys in Vernal, UT where she was successful and well respected. She was loved by all who knew her.

Her family was her pride and joy. She loved being with them and working with them. She listened with an empathetic ear and did whatever she could to make it possible for them to feel better and to help them achieve their dreams. She loved sharing the wild flowers at the ranch with family and friends. She enjoyed serving in her church callings. She will be greatly missed.

The viewings will be held: Tuesday, June 5, 2018, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Blackburn & Sons Vernal Mortuary, 15 E 100 N Vernal, UT 84078; and on Wednesday, June 6, 2018, at the LDS chapel 6877 N 10600 E, Lapoint, UT 84039, from 9:00 to 10:45 am.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, 6 June 2018 at 11:00 am at the LDS Chapel, 6877 N 10600 E, Lapoint, UT 84039.
