Burl D. Twitchell was born March 17, 1934 in Vernal, UT. He was the youngest child and only living son of Don and Etheleen Twitchell. Burl was almost 15 pounds when he was born, and his large stature became a hallmark of his life. He spent the majority of his life in Manila, UT where he lived, loved, served, and strived to better his community. He was a bit mischievous, but managed to capture the heart of his sweetheart, Ida Marie Biorn with whom he was joined in marriage for 61 years before her death. He was reunited with his sweetheart in the Spirit World on Tuesday, August 9, 2016 after a two-year battle with prostate cancer. Burl is survived by his children: Beth (Allan) Anopol, Annie (Fred) Lambert, Nella (Gale) Lamb, Sam (Tammy) Twitchell, Sarah Twitchell and daughter-in-law Tammy (Lawrence) Twitchell, 16 grandchildren, and 28 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, daughter (Thelma Louise), son (Lawrence), grandson, and beloved wife Ida Marie. Burl spent his life working to provide for his family through the park service, forest service, and county. He helped build the dam as well as building and/or maintaining many of the campsites in the Ashley National Forest. He spent many years keeping the Manila Cemetery clean and beautiful, as well as building and maintaining the Daggett County Park. Burl never wasted an opportunity to help a friend in need and will be missed by many. He had a deep and abiding testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and was ready to return to the arms of his Savior. Funeral services will be Saturday, August, 13, 2016 @ 11:00 A.M. at the Manila LDS Ward Chapel. Family and friends may call at the chapel from 9:30-10:45 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Manila Cemetery. under the direction of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
