Carolene Bowden Gardiner passed away at home with her family by her side on March 7th 2022.
She was born November 17, 1937 in Roosevelt UT to Charles Edwin Bowden and Elizabeth Ann Thomas. She attended Union High School. Carolene Married Bryce Mackay on June 4th 1956, they were later divorced. She married Denny Gardiner on August 2nd, 1996 in the Jordan River Temple.
Carolene enjoyed raising her three children Bryan, Ronnie, and Diana. Carolene not only loved watching her children play ball but also playing softball, volleyball, and cross-country skiing herself. She was an avid Utah Jazz Basketball fan.
She was employed by the Uintah School District as a cook at Uintah High School for 23 years, and at the Uintah Credit union for several years.
Carolene enjoyed having her grandchildren come and spend weeks with her in the summers and keept them busy with swimming, Bike rides, crafts and going on rides around the valley.
While Carolene had always been a seamstress, after retiring from the high school Carolene taught herself to quilt and found her real passion in quilt making. Her beautiful quilts received as gifts are cherished by many. She was a member of the Quilters on the Edge Quilt Guild and the Utah Quilt Guild.
Carolene was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and especially enjoyed callings with the children and youth. Jr Sunday School Coordinator, Young Women Leader and Primary Teacher were some of her favorites. After retirement Carolene was able to enjoy several years as an Ordinance worker at the Vernal Temple. Some of her favorite times were serving and meeting the wonderful people she worked with there.
Carolene is survived by her Children Bryan (Janet) Mackay, Diana (Denis) Johnson, Daughter-in-law Angie Mackay. Step children Laura Hodges, Bruce Gardiner, Doug (Diane) Gardiner, Linda (Kyle) Walker, Karen (Brad) Foley. 27 Grandchildren, and 34 Great Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her Husband Denny Gardiner, her parents Charles and Elizabeth Bowden, all 5 brothers and all 5 sisters, her Son Ronnie Mackay and Grandson Scott Mackay.
Services will be held Saturday March, 19, 2022 at 11:00am at the Glines 2nd Ward Chapel. Friends may call from 10:00am to 10:45am prior to the service and on Friday March 18, 2022 from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary. Interment in the Vernal Memorial Park under the direction of Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
