On May 1, Charlie (Butch) Mitchell was reunited with his family in Heaven, waiting for him at the gate were his wife, Nita Johnston, niece Quillyn Mecham and is BFF dog "Chopper". Charles Kenneth Mitchell was born in Hobbs, New Mexico on November 30, 1944 to Mary Virginia (Polly) Black Mitchell and Charles Kenneth Mitchell. He grew up in Hobbs and it was there he developed his love of sports and the Dallas Cowboys. After leaving the Army Charlie married his girlfriend Cherokee and they had a daughter named Ranea. They were later divorced. When Charlie started losing his eye sight the Texas institute for Blind sent him to school where he met the love of his life Nita and her two sons. After the wedding, they moved to vernal, to be closer to his sister in 1988. Preceding him in death is uncle Bob Black, Ed Sanders, Aunt betty Black Devlin, grandmother Jo Henderson Black LaCross. He is survived by his sister Sondra Waller, nephew Rick Waller Staley of Vernal. Aunt Margaret Sanders, Hobbs, NM; twin uncles Ronald LaCross and Donald LaCross and a very special BFF Billy Dick. His family would like to thank Blackburn's for their help and kindness. A special "We love you" to all the employees at the Uintah Care Center for the 12 years of love and care you showed Charlie while he loved there and to the V.F.W. for the beautiful Military Honors they presented. Graveside services will be Monday, May 4, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. at the Vernal Memorial Park, with Military Honors provided by American Legion. under the direction of Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
