Clayton Slaugh

Clayton John Slaugh, age 86, of Vernal, Utah, returned to his Heavenly Father and his eternal sweetheart on their 65th wedding anniversary May 2, 2012. Clayton was born May 12, 1925 in Vernal, Utah. He was the second of seven boys born to Rena (Rinske) Postma and Charles David Slaugh. At the age of 18, he was drafted into WWII in the COD 148 Infantry 37 division and served in the Philippines until the war ended. On May 2, 1947 he married his sweetheart, Opal Hadlock in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they had five children. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Saints. He had a great love for the Savior and shared his testimony through example. He held many callings in the church: Sunday School, Young Men, Elders Quorum, High Priest Group Leader, Ward Clerk , temple worker and served a 2 1/2 year stake mission, with his sweetheart. Clayton worked hard all his life as a oil field worker, gilsonite miner, carpenter and farmer. Clayton loved being on the farm raising animals, running equipment and working beside his sons and grandchildren. He also enjoyed playing games especially pinochle and mexian train with anyone willing. He thoroughly enjoyed going to The Golden Age Center every Saturday to dance with his sweetheart. You could always catch Clayton watching a sports game, especially his favorite basketball team, the Utah Jazz. Clayton will always be remembered as a man who loved to to tell stories of the good old days. He enjoyed his family more than anything else. He was very proud of his large family and bragged about them to anyone and everyone. The thing he will be remember for the most is his unconditional love and devotion to his great love, Opal. His heart is once again full. Clayton is survived by his 5 children: Craig (Diane) Slaugh of Fallon, NV, Burnell (Carma) Slaugh of Vernal, Linda (Kent) Montgomery of Lund, NV, Lee (Roxanne) Slaugh of Roosevelt, and Shauna (Joesph) Giles of Springville, UT, 30 grandchildren, 100 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. He is preceeded in death by his wife, Opal Hadlock, parents, brothers Royal Slaugh, Earl Slaugh and Dean Slaugh, grandson Aaron Slaugh and Great Granddaughter Vickie Priebe. Internment in the Vernal Memorial Park, with Military Honors by the American Legion. Services were entrusted to the care of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
