Our loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, Dale Francis Thacker, passed away peacefully at the home of his daughter, Susan in Alpine, UT on Jan.1, 2014 at the age of 88 due to the effects of Type 1 Diabetes with which he was challenged for 63 years. Dale was born on Nov. 2, 1925 in the little community of Maeser just outside of Vernal, UT a son of Leslie P. and Stella Vernon Thacker. He graduated from Uintah High school and served his country in the US Army for 2 1/2 years. He married Marilyn Woodward in the SLC Temple on June 23, 1948. He attended the U of U and then completed his degree at Utah State in Logan in 1951. Dale and Marilyn made their home in Vernal where they raised their 5 children. Dale's hobbies included fishing, hunting, camping with his family and doing anything in nature. He had a nice tenor voice and enjoyed singing and playing his guitar and harmonica. He taught Industrial Arts at Vernal Jr. High for 3 years. He owned and operated "Ye Olde Shoe Shoppe" in Vernal and was happy to repair boots, shoes and anything else that needed fixin'. He was creative and liked to invent useful gadgets. He and his wife enjoyed all of their callings in the LDS church especially in Scouting where they both received the Silver Beaver Award. Dale served with his wife in the Vernal Temple from 1997 to 2007. Dale had a quiet, unassuming manner, loved everyone, and was well-known for his generosity. He was always willing to help or serve in any way. He leaves a legacy of honesty, hard-work and strong testimony. He is preceded in death by his parents, his sister Vivian, infant brother Royal, daughter-in-law Pam Angus Thacker and great grandson, Jackson Hewett. He is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn and their 5 children; Acel, Boise, ID, Nancy Goddard (Wally), Little Rock, AR, Susan Ham (Ed) Alpine, UT, Alan (Wendy) Ogden, UT, and Lori Hermansen (Phil) Cedar City, UT., 20 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren and one brother, Doral "Ted" Thacker Gilbert, AZ.
You are invited to join us in a celebration of his life on Friday, Jan. 10, 2014. Visiting from 6-7, Funeral Service at 7pm in Alpine, UT at the Alpine North Stake Center, 1125 North, Alpine Blvd. Alpine, UT 84004. The following day, Saturday, Jan. 11 in Vernal, UT a viewing will begin at 11am with a Funeral service at 12 noon at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary. Burial will be at the Maeser Fairview Cemetery with military honors by the American Legion Post 11 and 124 and the Utah Army National Guard. Services are entrusted to the care of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
