With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Darlene Giles Roper, who left this world peacefully on January 1, 2025, in Vernal, Utah, surrounded by her loving family. Darlene was born on March 20, 1944, in Salt Lake City, Utah, and was a cherished soul who touched the lives of many.
Darlene attended Bountiful High School. Her dedication to her community was evident through her service in the Bountiful Civil Air Patrol. Her unwavering faith as a devout member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints guided her throughout her life, where she served in various callings with grace and humility, her favorite being an ordnance working in the temple with her husband Lonnie.
Darlene's passions were abundant. She had a special talent for making blankets for babies in the community, reflecting her nurturing spirit. Her hobbies included crocheting, canning, baking, playing cards, and quilting. She always found joy in lending a helping hand to those in need. Darlene loved pampering herself with visits to the hair and nail salon, bringing a little extra sparkle to her radiant personality.
On March 17, 1961, Darlene married her sweetheart, Lonnie Burns Roper. Their love story was sealed for time and eternity in the Vernal Temple on October 12, 2002. Together, they raised three wonderful children: Cindy Leigh Kooyman, Derek Wayde Roper (Carol Jo Roper) of Salt Lake City, and Kristee Lynn Bettilyon. Darlene was the proud grandmother of six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Darlene is survived by her loving husband, Lonnie Roper; her son, Derek (Carol) Roper; and her cherished grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, eight siblings, her two daughters, and one grandchild.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Ashley 2nd Ward Chapel (3040 N Vernal Ave) with a viewing held from 12:30- 1:45 prior to service at the Chapel. Burial will be in the Rock Point Cemetery under the direction of Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
Family and friends are invited to join us in celebrating the beautiful life of Darlene, a woman whose love, kindness, and selflessness will be remembered forever.
In our hearts, she will always remain a guiding light, and her legacy of compassion will continue to inspire all who knew her.
We want to thank any and all who have helped Darlene in her lengthy health battle; an especially big thank you to Canyon Hospice Nurses and the aides for their critical care and compassion.
