Donna Lloyd

Donna Lou Pallesen Lloyd, 77 years of age, of Manila, Utah, passed on May 5, 2014, in Salt Lake City, Utah, after a long illness. Donna was born in Maeser, Utah, on July 31, 1936, to Jerome C. Smiley and Fon Potter. Fon later married Doyle Slagowski and together they raised Donna and four other children. Donna grew up living in several different places in and around Manila including the Fish and Game Place, the Vaughn Christensen Place and the Horse Ranch. She talked several times about her memories as a young girl riding her horse from the Fish and Game Place down into the Sheep Creek Ranch where she helped Bennetts with ironing and picked berries to bring home. Donna attended school in Manila, Utah, and later married Forrest D. Pallesen on September 19, 1952, in Vernal, Utah. Together they had three sons. They lived in Campbells old house and then moved to Big Piney, Wyoming, for a short while. From there they moved to Sage Creek and then came back to the Manila area where they lived at the old Twitchell Place (where Raymond lives today). In 1967 they bought their ranch west of Manila. In 1972 they were chosen for the FHA Farm Family of the Year. Forrest passed away in June of 1981; she then married Coye (Cork) L. Lloyd on October 24, 1981. Cork passed away in October of 1995. Donna was active in the Manila Homemakers Club and held several offices there. For many years up until her death she continued that service manning the booth at the Sweetwater County Fair. She was known throughout the community for her wonderful, down home cooking. She cooked for the school, the senior citizens center, and the jail. She was most known for her rolls which she made for many parties and events. She supported her kids in any and all activities they wanted to participate in. She followed them to every ball game, rodeo, and county fair. Even up until her death she was following her grandkids and great grandkids to rodeos as well as helping take tickets at the junior rodeos in Manila. Donna was honored to represent Daggett County at the National Day of the American Cowboy during the 2010 Ogden Pioneer Days Rodeo. Donna also enjoyed spending time with family and friends hunting and camping. Donna is survived by three sons, Raymond Pallesen and Roxey; Boyd Pallesen and Edie; Donald Pallesen and Keri, all of Manila, Utah; three stepsons and one stepdaughter, Jerry Lloyd and Judy, Sunset, Utah; Jim Lloyd, Roy, Utah; Steve Lloyd and Cindy, Clinton, Utah; Barbara (Frank) Landers, Layton, Utah; 16 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are three brothers and two sisters, Stanley Slagowski and Celia, Washam, Wyoming; Deann (Jim) Wilson, Manila, Utah; Robert Slagowski and Dawn Marie, Washam, Wyoming; Tom Smiley and Chris, Washington; Marlaine (Paul) Netter, Washington, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerome Smiley, and Doyle and Fon Slagowski; her husbands, Forrest Pallesen and Coye Lloyd; her sisters Rita Hoover, and Jerri Uthmann; and two grandchildren. Memorial services will be conducted Monday, May 12, 2014 at 11 am in the Manila LDS Chapel in Manila, Utah. Friends may greet Family 1 hour prior to services Burial will be in the Manila cemetery.
