Doreen Reynolds Hunting

Marjorie Doreen Reynolds Hunting, our beloved Mother, Sister, Aunt, and Grandmother went home to her Heavenly Father, her beloved husband, and other loved ones on July 11, 2024, at the age of eighty-six.

Doreen was born on November 18, 1937, on the river in Jensen, Utah to Floy Otis Reynolds and Hilda Merkley Reynolds. She grew up in Jensen and often rode her horse to see “Grandma” Josie Morris. She loved to fish and ride her horses.

On December 4, 1956, she married the love of her life, Oran A. Hunting, in Ely, Nevada with whom she had two boys. They were married for 57 years when Oran passed away on October 11, 2014. They spent their years together riding horses, herding cows, raising their children, and hauling cows for other ranchers throughout the Uintah Basin. They loved traveling in the “big” truck and drove together too many miles to count. They loved their grandchildren and Doreen spent countless hours cooking for all of them. She cooked lunches on weekdays for her son for over twenty years.

Doreen was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many different callings over the years and loved her Heavenly Father very much. She and Oran were sealed together for time and all eternity in the Vernal Utah Temple on July 18, 2001.

She loved her horses and was Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo Queen three times. She was then on the Dinosaur Roundup Rodeo Committee and worked and helped with the Queens who served after her for over 30 years. She was a member of the Dinah Spurs precision riding club for years. She was also the Old-Timer’s Rodeo Queen runner up in 1981 in Reno, Nevada. She was a member of the Rising Star Riders from their beginning years up until the day she passed away. She volunteered and contributed many hours and knowledge in the horse world.

Besides her horses, Doreen was also a catcher in the fast-pitch league and was an avid bowler up to the age of eighty-five when she had her stroke. She won many accolades in the bowling world.

Doreen never knew a stranger and loved her family and friends. She loved to go, visit, and participate in a variety of activities and always had a pep in her step. She took pride in her appearance and made sure she was presentable and ready to go every day. She loved her silk pajamas but hated dresses & nightgowns. She loved diet Pepsi, Cappuccino, and toast with honey peanut butter on it.

Doreen is survived by her sons Terrill Wayne (Tonya) Hunting, Gene (Lynnette) Hunting, and former daughter-in-law, Lourie Broome Hunting, all of Vernal, Utah, along with ten grandchildren (spouses), twenty-two great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. She is survived by her niece, Elaine Holmes Garcia, along with many other beloved nieces and nephews and two sisters-in-law.

Doreen was preceded in death by her husband, Oran A. Hunting, her parents Floy Otis and Hilda Merkley, a stepfather Ralph Hatch, her grandson Patrick Ray Hunting, her great-grandson Mitch Tomlinson, and by her two sisters and three brothers.
