Elmer Jay Haslem passed away on Friday, May 9, 2014 at the Uintah Care Center in Vernal, Utah. He was born to Von Haslem and Florence Richens Johnson on July 30, 1931 in Vernal. He married Joy Louise Ainge on July 28, 1951 in Winnemucca, Nevada. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple on June 15, 1962. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he held the office of High Priest. He was also an ordinance worker in the Vernal Temple. Jay served in the US Air Force during the Korean War. He worked for Chevron, Triple H and BHI. He also served on Ashley Valley Water and Sewer Improvement District Board. He enjoyed hunting and fishing but most of all he loved his farm and his cows. He loved his family and spending time with them, especially the grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jay is survived by his daughter; Kathy (Mike) Alexander, sons; Don (Teresa) and Brad (Karlene), all of Vernal, grandchildren; Brian (Merradee) Alexander, Russell (Jennifer) Alexander, Tracey (Devin) Batty, Kristi (Rhett) Holmes, Myndee (Dave) Hanberg, Ashly (Trent) Mathews, Brett (Ashley) Haslem, Joshua (Debbie) Haslem, Erik (Kari) Haslem, and Megan (Adam) Brown. He was also proud of having 24 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Sam Haslem of St. George, Utah. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister; Elaine and brother; Ferron. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Ashely First Ward LDS Chapel (3040 North Vernal Avenue with viewings Monday evening from 6-8 at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary and one hour prior to services at the chapel. Burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Park with military honors by the American Legion and the Utah Army National Guard. Services are entrusted to the car of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
