Evan R. Murray was born July 15, 1939 in Vernal, UT to Richard and Margery Murray. He passed away peacefully at his home in Lubbock, TX surrounded by his family on December 8, 2021.
Evan graduated from Uintah high school and attended Weber State University. He married Renee’ Samuels on January 17, 1959 in Vernal, where they had 2 children Rod and Tonya. Evan and Renee spent a lot of time at the Ball Park where Evan coached baseball and Renee’ kept score. He also loved hunting, fishing, golf, bowling, camping trips with family and friends.
Evan worked at Dowell from 1963 to 1999 beginning in Vernal, UT with transfers to Evanston, WY and Hobbs, NM where he was Sales Manager.
After Renee’s passing, Evan later married Soki in 2003 where they lived in Hobbs, NM and then settled in Lubbock, TX last year. They enjoyed traveling, cooking, casino slot play and family gatherings.
He is survived by his wife Soki Murray of Lubbock, TX, his sister, Jerile (Clayton) Southam of Vernal, UT, his daughter, Tonya (Grady) Phillips of Midland, TX, his step-children, Chris (Laura) Garcia of Midland, TX, and Lori (Lalo) Alvarado of Hobbs, NM, his grandchildren Lynzi (Mark) Hathcock of Farmington, NM, Chet (Lacey) Murray of Farmington, NM, Paige (Coby) Adair of Seminole, TX, Nikki Hemmingson of Midland, TX, Andrea Alvarado of Lubbock, TX, Jessica (Dr. Robert) Johnston of Lubbock, TX, Roxy Alvarado of Lubbock, TX, Josh (Blanca) Garcia of Midland, TX, Gabriel Garcia of Midland, TX and Nicholas (Megan) Garcia of Midland, TX, and many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Evan is preceded in death by his wife, Renee’ Samuels Murray, son, Rod E. Murray, parents, Richard and Margery Murray, sisters Marva Voorhies and Darlene Bowden, brother in law, Floyd Bowden.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, December 17, 2021 at 11 AM at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary a viewing will be held Thursday 6-8 pm and Friday 1 hour prior to the services. Burial will be at the Maeser Cemetary in Vernal, UT.
