Fern Janet Baker, age 83, died on December 18, 2014 at her home after an extended illness. Mrs. Baker was born on December 30, 1930 to Mr. and Mrs. Nickson in Taft California. She married James Harold Baker on March 27th and they were married for 52 years during which they lived I California, Colorado, and Utah. Mr. and Mrs. Baker moved to Vernal in 1970 where he established his own business. Together they enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping. Fern was an avid golfer and bowler. She won numerous awards for both sports, but might have been most proud of a hole-in-one at the age of 72. Animals were always a large part of her life and she was particularly proud of her vernal chickens who were excellent layers. Fern is preceded in death by her husband James Baker, She is survived by her three children; son, George W (Angela) Baker of Boulder, CO; daughter, Kathleen (James L.) Martens of Upton, WY; daughter, Cindi (Jeff) Gardner of Vernal, UT; two brothers, Bruce (Lorriane) Nickson and Richard (Kay) Nickson; 6 grandchildren and 29 great- grandchildren. In lieu of flowers please make donation to the Vernal Animal Shelter in name of Fern Baker. A private family gathering will be held at her home on Saturday, December 20, 2014 at 10:00 am.
