Freda Vonda Richins Caldwell, age 89, passed away on July 19, 2015 in Naples, Uintah, Utah at her daughter Brenda's home. Freda was born October 22, 1925 in Vernal, Uintah, Utah to Albert C. and Rowena Larsen Richins. Freda was the sixth child of eight children. The Richins family moved from Vernal to Canada when Freda was two years old. Freda returned to Vernal when she was fourteen and she later graduated from Uintah High School. Freda received a scholarship to attend the Salt Lake Business College in Salt Lake City, Utah and also started working at Safeway Groceries while attending school. Freda married Kedric Neil Caldwell from Dry Fork, Utah June 19, 1947 in Centerville, Utah. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple October 29, 1947. Freda and Ked lived in the Maeser area where they raised their three daughters: Marsha Jean, Brenda Lou, and Susan Lori. Freda was an active and devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints all her life. She served in many stake and ward positions, but her favorite calling was teaching the young children in Primary where she could share the gospel and her testimony. Freda will be remembered for her ability to tell gospel stories, her beautiful visual aids and the handouts she made. Freda and her family also served two years in the Whiterocks Utah LDS Indian Mission. Freda was employed by Uintah School District as a librarian and secretary for many years. She worked at Naples Elementary and Maeser Elementary. Freda later worked for Uintah County in the Assessor's Office and the Recorder's Office. Following her retirement from Uintah County, Freda enjoyed working in her flower and vegetable gardens and she spent most of her days working out in her yards and enjoying nature. Freda's passion in life was to read a good book, especially her scriptures. Her home was filled with many collections of great books she enjoyed reading. Freda was preceded in death by her spouse Kedric, parents and five siblings; Heber, Octora, Velva, ViLettie and Mae. She is survived by her brother Fran Richins of Vernal, Utah and a sister Avis Ashby of Cedar City, Utah; her daughters Marsha and the late Kimo Poai of Orem, Utah; Brenda and Dan Olsen of Naples, Utah; and Susan and Michael Weyerman of Vernal, Utah. Freda has 12 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, July 25, 2015 in the Naples 1st Ward Chapel, 2313 S 1500 E, Naples, Utah. There will be a viewing from 6 to 8 pm July 24 at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary and from 9:45 to 10:45 am at the Naples Chapel prior to her funeral. Interment will be in the Dry Fork Cemetery. Services are under the direction of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
