Gary J. Rowley, 74 died March 20, 2014 at the Uintah care center in Vernal. He was born June 8, 1939 in Vernal, Utah to Acel DeForest and Laura Smuin Rowley, He married Jessie Richins August 21, 1959 their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Gary was a U.S. Government trapper and hunter since 1960. He worked for the Division of Wildlife for the state of Utah until 1969 until which he transferred to Craig, Colorado as district supervisor (and Government trapper) in the North West Colorado with the Department of Agriculture for the preservation of food and fiber. Gary was very innovative in both his work and his training and was a well-known field officer in the western United States. He served in this position until his retirement on October 31, 1995. He was a hunting guide and outfitter for R&R Hunting services from the early 1970s to 2009. He was former Boy Scout leader in Utah as well as being accomplished in tooling leather and fly tying and enjoyed fishing Jug Hollow at Flaming Gorge. He was a skilled carpenter, building several of his own homes his last being his homestead at the George Bassett place in Browns Park. His favorite spot on his property in Browns Park was on a peak over-looking the valley, this is where he had mentioned that he felt closer to God and his father than anywhere else on earth. Gary is survived by his wife Jessie of Craig children Colleen Wilkinson, of Craig; Kenneth Rowley of Bosque Farms, New Mexico; and Annette McCurdy of Craig; Six grandchildren and Five great grandchildren with one on the way. Brothers Delyle (Mary) Rowley, Dallas, Dennis (Diane) Rowley sister Carol (Larry) Allen and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents and sister in law Rosalie Rowley. Funeral services for will be conducted on Monday, March 24, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Craig LDS Chapel. Friends and family may call 1 hour prior to services at the chapel. Burial will be in the Dry Fork cemetery; About 3:30 p.m. Services entrusted to the care of Blackburn Vernal Mortuary
