Geraldine Timothy Carroll

March 16, 1928 ~ September 21, 2014 Geraldine LaRue Timothy Carroll (Geri/Gerry) passed away peacefully at her home in Vernal (Maeser), Utah on Sunday, September 21, 2014 at the age of 86. Geri was born March 16, 1928 to parents Evan and Agnes Nott Timothy in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was the third of five children and was preceded in death by two of her older brothers, Stanley (Age 12) and Bruce, and her youngest sister, Sandra Jean (Infant). She was especially fond of her little sister, Joan, with whom she maintained a close relationship. The Timothy Family lived in Salt Lake City, not far from Trolley Square. One of her favorite memories was riding in the rumble seat of her father's Model T Ford. She often accompanied her dad as they performed accordion programs around the valley. One of two stark memories she had occurred on March 12, 1934 (Age 5) when Utah had a large earthquake. She was in one of eight cribs on rollers at Holy Cross Hospital which banged back and forth, with people running and screaming. The second was August 14, 1945 (Age 17), VJ Day. People were celebrating the end of WWII in the streets while she lay in a body cast in the hospital, wishing she could participate. In 1948, she married Eugene Smith in Salt Lake City, with whom she had four children; Jolyn, Michael, Kent and Susan, who died shortly after birth in Livermore, California. After a divorce, Geri married Leland Carroll in the Salt Lake Temple on April 7, 1957. They settled in Monticello, Utah where a daughter, Kathleen was born. Their next move took them to Maeser, Utah in 1958 where three additional children were added; Ann, Paul and Patrick. Geri was known for her generosity and vitality. Though suffering from physical handicaps early on in childhood, she never slowed down. She traveled far and wide by air, sea and motorhome. Being musically talented, Geri taught piano lessons for many years before landing a job with the State of Utah Social Services Department. Wanting to better her position at work, she returned to Utah State University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. In life, she was a choice daughter of God, sent to bless her friends and posterity. In death, she will rest from her labors and reunite with many loved ones. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Leland Roy Carroll on Nov. 27, 2007 and Eugene Rex Smith on Dec. 11, 2009 She is survived by her younger sister, Joan (Blaine) Cameron of St. George, Utah, and children, Jolyn Taylor of Vernal, Utah, Michael (Sidney) Smith of Omaha, Nebraska, Kent (Sally) Smith of Clinton, Utah, Kathleen (Michael) Palmer of Pleasanton, California, Ann (Verlyn) Cook of Vernal, Utah, Paul (Ana) Carroll of Lima, Peru and Patrick (Deborah) Carroll of Syracuse, Utah. Additionally, 24 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren will bless her name for eternity. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 27th at 11:00 am at the Ashley Maeser Chapel, 2575 N. 1500 W. in Vernal, Utah. Viewings will be held on Friday from 6:00-8:00 pm at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary, 15 E. 100 N. and on Saturday morning from 9:45-10:45 am at the Ashley Maeser Chapel.
