Gladys Peterson

Gladys Ruppe Peterson Gladys passed away on October 21st 2024 at the Uintah Care Center in Vernal, Utah. She was born on March 19, 1939 at the Ruppe home in Naples Utah. Her parents were Cecil Putnam “Mike” Ruppe and Reva Marie Simmons Ruppe. She was the youngest of six children, with two older sisters and three older brothers.

She grew up in Naples on the family farm, but spent her summers on Blue Mountain in Colorado on the Ruppe Homestead, with her mother and a few of the Siblings, while her father and the rest of the family worked the farm in Naples.

At the age of 15 she met her lifelong Sweetheart, Fran D Peterson. They were married on May 11th, 1955 in the Salt Lake Temple when she was 16. They were together until his passing in April of 2000, just before their 45th Anniversary. They had 8 children, and welcomed two more boys into their home through the Indian placement program. This gave them 5 girls and 5 boys. They became as much a part of the family as their natural children.

Gladys was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served faithfully in many callings, and enjoyed them all. Her Guide Patrol boys fondly remember her and the activities she came up with for them. She was a member of the “Singing Mother’s Choir” in the Jensen ward. She and Fran went on many “Young Farmer’s” tours, they helped with River shuttles and River Trips. After Fran’s passing, she worked in the “Grandparents” program at Davis Elementary for a while, and the students fondly called her ‘Grandma Pete’.

In November of 2020 Gladys moved to the Uintah Care Center where she made many friends among the Staff and the Residents. She will be missed by her friends there. We want to thank the Staff at the Uintah Care Center for the great care and friendship that they gave her.
