Jim knew that new newlywed tenants were moving into their home soon. While he was working on the roof, he saw most beautiful girl he’d ever seen and figured she was the new newlywed tenant. He was sad.
When he found out that SHE was the sister of the new tenant, he was ecstatic. Beverly was a farm girl from Fruit Heights and Jim was a city boy from Salt Lake. Jim had his own car so he visited Beverly as often as he could. His father asked him why he hadn’t found a girlfriend closer to Salt Lake?
Jim Shewell and Beverly Nicholls were married on March 23, 1951 in the Salt Lake City Temple, in Salt Lake City, UT. They were married for 73 years and blessed with 6 children: Michele, Janalyn, James Douglas, Lianne, N Blaine and Richard Vernon.
Jim is a Navy Veteran of the Korean War serving in Cuba and French Morocco from 1952 to 1956.
The family lived in Sandy, Utah until they moved to the Redwash oilfield in 1961. Jim worked for Chevron Oil for many years. They then moved into their current home in Vernal, Utah in 1967.
Then as a master electrician Jim and a friend owned S/M Electric for many years, but ended up closing the doors during one of Vernal’s downtimes. He then worked for Uintah County until retirement.
Beverly’s greatest joy was her children, she loved being a homemaker, gardener, and quilt maker. She also was an awesome babysitter after her own children were grown.
Jim and Beverly served faithfully in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the many callings they were given.
