Our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, Hazel Reynolds Haws, age 91, died October 24, 2018, at her home in Glines. Hazel was born the 31 January 1927 in Venice California to George Lynn and Crystal Beers Reynolds. She was married to Sterling Burnell Haws in Vernal and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple. Burnell died 22 September 1968, leaving Hazel to spend many years as a widow with her tow sons, Robert Burnell Haws and Jeffery Haws. Jeff also preceded her in death on 13 April 2004.
Her husband, Burnell, had the Bernina dealership in Vernal for many years. After his death, Hazel taught herself to repair sewing machines and took over the dealership from her home for many years.
Hazel had a lot of serious health issues through the years, but she remembered for always having a smile on her face and a love of life – she made any activity fun. She loved working in her garden., prospecting, rock hunting in the mountains and spending countless hours working on her family history. She was an avid genealogist and was proud of her pioneer ancestors who helped settle Ashley Valley; they included James Harvey Glines (the first Bishop of Glines Ward), William Pitt Reynolds (who built, with his sons the first flour mill in the Valley), George Freestone, and Franklin Beers.
Hazel loved her family. She is survived by her sons, Robert “Rob” and Suzie Haws and her four grandchildren, Mariah Haws, Angela Haws, Levi Haws and Asia Haws. She was a kind and loving friend to everyone she met and will be greatly missed by those she leaves behind.
Funeral services will be Monday, October 29, 2018 @ 11:00 AM at the Vernal LDS Stake Center. (875 West 100 North). A viewing will be for family and friends at the chapel from 9:30-10:45 prior to the services. Burial will be in the Maeser Fairview Cemetery.
