Helen Baxter Mixa, age 87, passed away quietly April 18, 2015 at her home in Vernal, Utah. She was born December 18, 1927 to Robert and Alma Baxter in Golden, Colorado. She graduated from the University of Colorado at Boulder, before she married Sigel Edward "Ed" Mixa on August 27, 1950. They lived in several different towns in Colorado and Wyoming as they raised their daughters. They were in Casper, Wyoming before moving to Vernal in 1971. Every summer the family took their camping trailer to see interesting places like National Parks or to go fishing in the mountains. Helen had a love for the outdoors. Helen attended the Kingsbury, United Church of Christ, and enjoyed their hand-bell choir. She always found a way to be happy wherever she was; either watching birds, or reading books, hiking, fishing, learning new things, enjoying music, art, the wonders of the world and her loving family. She never stopped learning new things even though she spent most of her life quietly at home with her family. She treated people with respect and received love and respect in return. When she was young she had written a wish for "a loving husband and three wonderful daughters", and she always said her wish came true. She is survived by her daughters; Kathleen (Dan) Tarara (Rochester, Minnesota), Diana Mixa (Vernal, Utah), and Linda (Brad) Walker (Dallas, Texas), grandchildren; Karen Tarara, Eileen (Stephen) Hopkins, and Brian Walker. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers, Paul and Ivan Baxter. Interment is being provided by the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary. No formal services will be held, in accordance with Helen's wishes. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate some time to enjoying the natural world in whatever way seems best to you. www.blackburnvernalmortuary.com
