Helen Asay Shumway died peacefully at the Uintah Care Center January 25, 2016. She was born in Lovell, Wyoming on August 20, 1924 to Adelbert Asay and Delilah Boice Asay. She married her childhood sweetheart, Charles Nephi Shumway Jr. on October 2, 1943. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple. They were blessed with five sons. She was an active member of the LDS church where she spent many years working in the Primary. She had a great love for genealogy and spent many hours and days in the pursuit of lost family members. She was also active in the community and in giving service to all. The family would like to thank all the nurses and workers at the Care Center for the excellent and loving care they have given our mother and grandmother for the past ten years. She is survived by her five sons Charles (Marijo) Las Vegas, Nevada, John (Connie) Vernal, Spence (Cathy) Atlanta, Georgia, Jed (Cindy) Cedar City, Utah, Brad (Kelly) Olathe, Kansas, Pat Moore, brother Cal Asay, Nephew, 22 Grandchildren, and 49 Great-Grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband Charles, a grandsons Jason and a great grandson Jeremy. Funeral services will be conducted on Friday, January 29, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the Vernal 3rd Ward Chapel. (475 West 100 South). A viewing will be Thursday evening from 6:00-8:00 at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary. and at the Chapel one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Park, under the direction of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
