Howard Ray Allen

Howard Ray Allen passed away on October 8, 2017 at his son's home in Lapoint, Utah. He was born December 28, 1925 in Vernal, Utah to Joseph Marion and Emma Manella (Nellie) Hislop Allen. He was raised in Maeser on a farm where he grew up with 4 brothers and 2 sisters. He enlisted in the Navy at age 17 and served 10 1/2 years. He was a World War II and Korean War Veteran. He traveled to several places around the world while serving in the Navy. He was a boxer in the navy and was very successful. Howard married Marilyn Schofield on June 20, 1954 in Manilla, Utah. They had three boys David, Douglas, and Duane. They later divorced. He married Gwen Benson who later passed away. He retired from American Gilsonite which was then owned by Chevron. He lived a very active life and witnessed a lot of history throughout his life. He was very active with sports, scouting, and farming. He loved hunting and fishing, especially when he would take his boys to the High Uinta's, whether by hiking or horseback. In his later years he was overjoyed to be in attendance at barrel races, ball games, flag ceremonies and even going to town for lunch. He never slowed down. He was a Golden Eagle supporter of the National Rifle Association. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints where he served in various stake and ward callings. His faith and love for the gospel was remarkable. Howard is survived by his sons: David (Ann) Allen, Wheatland, Wyoming; Duane (Jody) Allen, Lapoint, Utah; 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren; brothers: Glen (Rose) Allen, Vernal, Utah; Mark Allen, Saint George, Utah. He was preceded in death by parents: Joseph and Emma Manella Allen: 1/2 brothers: Myron Hacking; Gordon Hacking; sisters: Helen Broadaway; Eloise Parker; and son: Douglas Rodney Allen. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 11:00 am at the LDS church in Lapoint, Utah. Friends may call Friday, October 13, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary and 1 hour prior to services at the chapel. Interment will be at the Rock Point Cemetery, with Military Honors provided by American Legion and Navy. www.blackburnvernalmortuary.com
