Janice Powell Knutson, age 75 of Vernal, Utah passed away quietly at the Uintah Care Center on Sunday, September 23, 2012. She was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on March 7, 1937 to William Lee and Rhoda Harriett Powell. Janice attended Weber High School and served a mission for the LDS Church in northern California from 1967 to 1969. As a young woman, Janices family served a family mission at the Peter Whitmore Farm in Palmyra, New York. She married Allen James Knutson on January 2, 1971 in Elko, Nevada. She worked for 18 years in civil service at the IRS, Hill Air Force Base, and the Tooele Army Depot. Janice enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a great mother and wife. She was especially loved spoiling her grandchildren. Fishing, camping , and BYU Football were things she appreciated in life. She was loving, patient, understanding and selfless. Her sweet, kind spirit will be so missed. Janice is survived by her husband; Allen, children; Lance (Tara) Knutson, Rhonda (Michael) Knutson Shay, and Kris (Lisa) Speth, 11 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and siblings; William Kent Powell and Carolyn Valdez. She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter; Sarah Pearl Knutson, and siblings; Phyllis Roundy, Bessie Lee Denosky, and Aleen Deming Denosky. Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at the Vernal 1st Ward LDS Chapel (475 West 100 South). Friends may call 1 hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Park under the care and direction of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
