Jerry L. Larsen, age 76 of Vernal, passed away at his home on May 14, 2013 with his loving family by his side. He was born in Roosevelt, Utah on May 23, 1936 to Melvin Jasper and Mary Marjorie Wall Larsen. He attended school in Roosevelt and graduated from Union High School. He joined the military and served his country for 29 years, in both the Korean War and Desert Storm War. He married Betty Mae Henninger in Elko, Nevada on June15, 1963. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple in 1973. They moved to Vernal in 1973. Jerry worked for the City of Vernal and retired from U.S. West where he worked as a telephone repairman, and received a Technical Degree in Telecommunications. Jerry enjoyed the outdoors, camping, hunting, fishing, and loved riding motorcycles. He and Betty rode together for many years. He won many motorcycle hill climbing awards, including the National Motorcycle Championship in 1964. He was featured on the cover of Life Magazine that year. He also served as President of the Utah Pioneers and was the Branch President over the Uintah County Jail for 11 years. Jerry is survived by his wife; Betty, children; Bob Wright, James Larsen, Heidie Larsen, and Mathew Larsen, brother; Jess Larsen, 15 grandchildren, and 2 great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents, and sister; Katie Larsen. Funeral services will be held Monday, May 20, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Vernal 1st Ward LDS Chapel. Friends and family may call from 9:30-10:45 before the services at the chapel. Burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Park with military honors by the American Legion Post 11 and 124 and the Utah Army National Honor Guard. Services are entrusted to the care of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
