Joan Valent

Joan Martin Valent, age 74, of Vernal passed away at the Uintah Care Center on June 9, 2012. She was born on June 20, 1937 in Newark, New Jersey to Elsie Elias and Frank Martin. She was raised in Kenilworth, New Jersey and lived in Florida for 15 years before moving to Utah. Joan worked as a waitress in Florida at Shakeys Restaurant. Joan joined the LDS Church in her later years. She enjoyed bowling, dancing, playing Bingo and trivia games. She is survived by her brother; Frank (Denise) Martin in California, children; Laura (Vent) Slaugh of Vernal, Jim (Linda) Schick of Vermont, grandchildren; Danny, Kristen and Michael Schick, Jesse Anderson, Amber Slaugh, and Amy (Chris) Slaugh, and 4 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents. Funeral services will be held Friday, June 15, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. at the Blackburn Mortuary with a viewing 1 hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Manila City Cemetery under the care and direction of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
