Joyce Thomas

Joyce Arlene (Williams) Thomas age 84, passed from this world on May 12, 2023, in Vernal Utah. She was born in Goodland, Kansas on September 11, 1938.

Joyce was primarily raised in Denver, Colorado but after converting to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints she later moved to the Uintah Basin area of Utah and then to Vernal, UT where she married Ivan L. Thomas on June 14, 1975.

Joyce has 4 daughters: Diane Bakker (Dave), Janice Robinette (Cindy), Sharon Herron (Pat) and Sandy Brown-Kennedy (Mike). She merged her family with Ivan’s: Carma Slaugh (Burnell), Duayne Thomas (Christine), Dale Thomas (Linna) and Jill Page (Brett). Ivan and Joyce were blessed with 94 Grandchildren, 34 Great-Grandchildren and too many Great-Great Grandchildren to mention.

She was active in her church and enjoyed the many callings she had including the mission she and Ivan were called to served together in Illinois. She loved being up in the mountains camping and fishing with her family, gardening, and genealogy.

Joyce was a loving mother, a compassionate friend and cherished the bonds she formed. She worked as a Nurse (LPN & RN) at Ashley Valley Medical Center for years and was a volunteer EMT.

Survived by: Betty Stevens (sister), Karen Pierson (sister) and all her living children.

Proceeded in Death by: Her loving husband Ivan L Thomas, her daughter Diane Bakker, her mother and remaining siblings.

Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday May 16, 2023 at 11 AM in the Maeser 2^nd Ward chapel (2575 North 1500 West) viewings will be Monday 6-8 PM at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary and Tuesday at the Church 9:45-10:45 Burial in the Maeser Fairview Cemetery
