Judy Lee Abplanalp

Judy Lee Smith Abplanalp passed away Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2023 at the age of 73. 

She was born February 23, 1950 to Willie and Wilma Smith in Vernal, Utah.  Judy graduated from Uintah High School in 1968. She loved playing sports and is still remembered for being a really good pitcher.

One thing Judy and her friends loved to do was drag Main Street.  That is where she met her husband, Steve. Steve had just returned from serving in the Navy.  They then got married on April 7, 1972.  They went on to have six children, whom she absolutely adored.

Judy was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  She served many callings throughout her life. She was currently serving as the Primary President, which was her favorite calling. She loved her primary kids so much.

Judy was always willing to help anyone.  She loved to meet new people and getting to know them. She was always willing to be your friend. 

Judy worked at the U.S. Post Office for 38 years. She enjoyed getting to know the people on her mail route. You could also catch Judy pretty often at Wal-Mart, where she also enjoyed talking to everyone she knew.

Judy loved being a grandmother to her grandkids and her great grandson. She enjoyed having them at her house every chance she could.

Judy is survived by her husband, Stephen M. Abplanalp, children Amber (Adam) Wilson of Vernal, Sean (Adrianne) Abplanalp of Payson,

Rusty (Stacy) Abplanalp of Vernal, Stoney Abplanalp of Springville, Haylee (Brett) Brooke of Vernal and Kassi (Dallin) Atkin of Vernal, her 19 grandchildren and 1 (soon to be 2) great grandchildren, Sisters Shela (Lloyd) Swain, Sally (Glen) Larsen, Jody (Dave) Dent and Brother Billie Smith.

Judy was preceded in death by her parents Willie and Wilma Smith and baby sister Barcee Lyn Smith.

Her family is very grateful to all the many visitors she received in the days before her passing. She was truly loved.

Graveside service will be held Tuesday, December 19, 2023 at 11 am at the Rockpoint Cemetery with viewings held Monday from 6-8 PM at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary and Tuesday at the Mortuary from 9:30 – 10:30 am.
