Larvin Andrew Atwood passed peacefully into the arms of our Lord early in the morning of January 31, 2013. He went peacefully and under his terms. He was nearly 89 years of age. Welcoming him on the other side was his parents, Andy and Bessie Slaugh Atwood, brother, Alburn, sisters, Vivian and Wanda, his wife, Sarah Ellen Marshall Williams, and his step son Dennis Williams. Larvin was born February 15, 1924 in Vernal, Utah, one of six children. His sister Illa and brother Dal are still living. He married Melba Merkley on March 12, 1942. Their union resulted in two daughters, Lorna Montann and Margie Perry. Larvin and Melba later divorced. He was a WWII soldier and fought in the battle of the Bulge at the Rohr Valley in 1944 and was honorably discharged from the US Army in 1945. He then married Sarah Ellen Williams on May 8, 1950 in Denver, Colorado. This marriage was later solemnized in the Provo Utah LDS Temple. Together they raised Sarahs 2 sons, Robert Patterson and Dennis Williams. They were married 56 years. Together they operated the Dinosaur Service Station in Jensen until 1956, then the Gateway Cafe until they purchased the Naples Trading Post Store. Larvin also worked as a custodian and school bus driver for Uintah School District until his retirement. Larvin was a member of the LDS Church and had a deep and faithful testimony. He took great pride in his yard and garden and won the Uintah Countys most improved yard award. Larvin is also survived by 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 18 great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Monday, February 4, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at the Maeser LDS Stake Center with viewings Sunday evening from 6-8 and 1 hour prior to services. Burial was in the Vernal Memorial Park with military honors by the American Legion Post 124 and 11 and the Utah Army National Guard. Services were entrusted to the care of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
