Lila H. Briggs

Lila Briggs, age 92, passed away at the Uintah Care Center. Lila was born November 2, 1921 to Joseph William and Iva Holmes in Vernal. She was the fifth child of twelve. She grew up on a farm in the Davis Ward. She helped with the sheep while growing up. Lila married Alson Shiner in 1940, they had five children: Naione, Dennis, Leta, Norman and Chad. They were later divorced. Norman passed away in 1983. While they were married they built the Vernal Theater and rebuilt the Sunset Drive In. Lila worked in the Theatre's. She cooked at school lunch. She was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, enjoying teaching primary and visiting teaching for many years. Lila married Maurice Briggs, they later married in the Temple. Maurice passed away in 1991. She is survived by her children, Naione (Herb) Snyder of Vernal; Dennis (Sharron) Shiner of Stansbury Park; Leta (Arvid) Sullivan of Vernal; Chad (Shasta) Shiner of Murphys Boro, Illinois; 17 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren; brother Ben (Barbara) Holmes. The family would like to thank the Uintah Care Center, Nurses and care givers for all they have done for Mom and the family. Graveside services will be Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Vernal Memorial Park. Friends and family may call at Blackburn Vernal Mortuary from 9:30 until 10:30 prior to going to Cemetery.
