Lonnie Earl Meek passed away December 13, 2024, at his home in Vernal, UT. He spent the last few weeks of his life surrounded by his family, friends and loved ones sharing stories, memories and enjoying songs from them. When the time drew near, he heard the familiar words of an old hymn Softly and Tenderly, “come home, come home, Ye who are weary come home” and he quietly passed. He was born September 15, 1935, in Vinita, OK to A.R. Meek and Minnie Camp Meek. He attended college at Adam’s State College in Alamosa, CO on a football scholarship before serving his country in the Army in Germany. He loved the outdoors and especially loved fishing and hunting. He also enjoyed many hours of building puzzles and the frames for them then giving them to friends and family. He had such a big heart and was very generous with his time and resources; more than anything he loved the Lord and spending time with family. He was a founding member and instrumental in the starting of Vernal Christian Church. Lonnie made a living as a Power Line Contractor and was blessed to have his son, Kurt and his son-in-law Beryl work along side him.
He married Barbara Ruth Embleton on April 12, 1958, and they faithfully loved and cared for each other everyday for their 66 years of marriage. Together they had a daughter Debbie and a son Kurt.
Lonnie is survived by his sweet wife, Barbara; daughter Debbie Wright, of Vernal UT; son Kurt (Cathy) Meek, of Tucson AZ,
