Lowell Colton Caldwell 1932 - 2014 Lowell Colton Caldwell, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away on June 25, 2014 at his son's home in Nephi, Utah from complications arising from cancer. Lowell was born June 19, 1932 in Measer, Utah. He spent his childhood in the Ashley Valley, ranching and logging. When he was eight years old he was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the basement of the Vernal Tabernacle, the same building that was later renovated to become the current Vernal Temple. As a senior, Lowell was elected as the 1949-50 Student Body President of Uintah High School. Lowell was an Army veteran, serving with the artillery in the Korean War. Following his military service, Lowell attended B.Y.U. where he met and married Beverly Jean Richards in the Salt Lake Temple in 1955. After graduating from B.Y.U. in 1958, Lowell moved to Parowan, Utah where he taught High School and coached several sports including Football, Basketball, Wrestling, Baseball, Tennis, and Track. During his tenure in Parowan he taught History, Math, Physical Education, Health, Physiology, and started a unique Humanities program that is still in use today. In 1970 Lowell moved his family to Duchesne, Utah, where he worked as Secondary Principal, Elementary Principal, Assistant Superintendent & Curriculum Director, and Superintendent. In 1996 he was honored by First Interstate Bank as "Principal of the Year" in Utah. Active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he was involved in scouting for 35 years and was responsible for 105 Eagle Scouts. He subsequently served as Bishop, Sealer in the Vernal Temple, Missionary at the Nauvoo Temple, and Stake Patriarch. Lowell was preceded in death by his parents, Wallace and Nancy Mar Caldwell, his sister Betty Meacham, and his Brother Larry Caldwell. He is survived by his wife Beverly, his sisters Barta (Don) Shaffer and Eloise (Keith) Adams, his daughter Kathleen (Michael) Chronister, and his sons Richard (Sharon) Durbin and Bradley (Tiffany) Caldwell. At the time of his death, Lowell had 12 grandchildren and 17 great- grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted Monday June 30, 2014 at 10 a.m. In the Duchesne 2nd Ward LDS Chapel (901 North 500 East) viewings will be Sunday Evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Church and also 8:45-9:45 a.m. Prior to the services.
