On May 23, 2024, Marjorie Cherie Ainge Dickey, a devoted, loyal, loving mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, let go of the pain of this mortal life and stepped through the veil, reuniting with her son Eric, parents, brothers, and other loved ones. Cherie was surrounded by her loving family as she took her final breath.
Cherie was born on March 11, 1942, to Shirley and Bernice Ainge. Cherie lived an amazing life full of love and hard work. Growing up in Jensen, she loved spending time with her family and friends, even spending much of her time on the ranch of Josie Bassett Morris. Cherie participated in several school activities at Uintah High School such as: the Pep Club and the Commercial Club. Cherie loved education and achieved a dream at age 62, when she received her college degree in Business.
Cherie had many passions. She loved to ride horses and in 1960, she became Miss Vernal and was one of the attendants in the Dinosaur Roundup Royalty. She loved to read, do crosswords, put puzzles together, and hunt for arrow heads every Easter. Cherie was also a talented seamstress, making her own patterns and clothes for her children. She believed in hard work, having worked in many fields throughout her life, she found love in many of her jobs as a bookkeeper, librarian, and even a telephone operator.
She had a love of the gospel, spending much of her time serving in various callings for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served a mission for the church in the East Central Staes mission. She had a firm testimony, staying close to the Lord in all that she did. She spent much time teaching her children to love the gospel and stay close to their Heavenly Father, and the roots of their family.
Cherie married John Reuben Dickey on August 5, 1967, later sealed in the Salt Lake temple (div.1996), and raised five wonderful children (Janna, Eric, Gregg, Christy, and Heidi.) Her family was the apple of her eye. She spent her life giving as much love to her children, grandchildren, their friends, and anyone she encountered. Cherie was a very hospitable, generous, kind, funny, loyal, and charitable woman. She loved and accepted everyone with whom she met. Her grandkids would describe her as, “The coolest Grammy in the world!” Many of her grandkids would call her the “Immortal Grandma” as she seemed to find energy to keep up with them.
Cherie was a big sports fanatic. She had a love of sports but was very passionate about BYU Football and the San Francisco 49ers. The connection to sports allowed her to connect with her kids and grandkids even more, even razzing each other when their teams were playing against each other. She loved talking about her favorite teams any time she got the chance.
Cherie is survived by her children Janna Furness (Gordon), Gregg Dickey (Melissa), Christy Dickey, and Heidi Palfreyman, Dave Cattoor (brother), many grandchildren, great grandchildren, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Shirley Nile Ainge (father), Margie Bernice Ainge (mother), Eric John Dickey (son), Gerald “Gary” Ainge (brother), Harold G. Ainge (brother), and Duane Ainge (brother).
