Mary Ellen Gardiner

Mary Ellen Barker Gardiner was born December 19, 1924 in Bennett, Utah to Edgar and Lillian Hewitt Barker. She went back to the arms of her loving Heavenly Father at her home, surrounded by her husband and children on February 21, 2014 at the age of 89. Mary Ellen married her eternal companion and sweetheart, Gail Gardiner on January 4, 1945. They lived and raised their seven children in Bonanza and Vernal, Utah. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints where she served in many different callings. She served as a primary worker, a Sunday School Teacher, in the Relief Society, and with her husband as a chaperon for the High Uintah Scout Camps, as nursery leaders and a home teacher companion. She also helped her sister Vera Olsen on her Indian Mission. She was a Vernal Temple worker, a ward librarian for over 12 years, and a faithful visiting teacher until 2 months before her 89th birthday. Mary Ellen was known by all for her beautiful flower gardens and her doll collection of over a thousand dolls, all of the beautiful quilts and afghans she made and her sequin Christmas stockings. But most of all she was known as the best wife, mother, grandmother and friend anyone could ask for. She was always in service to anyone she could help. Ellen is survived by her husband; Gail, children; Betty (Douglas) Cook, Brenda (Floyd) Rasmussen, Ivan (Raema) Gardiner, Nancy (Randy) Beers, Edgar (Karlene) Gardiner, all of Vernal and Lenard (Jeanette) Gardiner of Palmer, Alaska, 19 grandchildren, and 43 great grandchildren with 2 more little boys on the way, sister: Marilyn (Newell) Warren, brother and sister in laws: Gladys Barker, Chester (Juanita) Gardiner, Don (Eva) Gardiner, of Vernal and Connie (Lou) Mitchell of American Fork. She is preceded in death by her son Roy Gardiner, parents, brother and sisters, brother and sister in laws, and many dear friends. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at the Davis 4th Ward LDS Chapel. Friends and family may call Monday evening from 6-8 at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary and 1 hour prior to services at the chapel. Burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Park under the care and direction of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
