Raema Adams Hatch passed away peacefully on February 3, 2019 at the age of 86 as a result of Alzheimer’s disease with family at her side. She received the best care possible in the Vernal Beehive Home, and the family would like to express their deepest gratitude to all the angels who loved and patiently cared for her there.
Raema was born January 29, 1933 to Lawrence and Virginia Adams in Vernal, Utah. As the oldest of five siblings, she lived her childhood years in the Dry Fork area, moved to Fontana, California for her sixth through ninth-grade years, returned to graduate from Uintah High School in 1951, and went to work as a secretary in a local bank.
She married Lloyd Hatch on July 1, 1953 in the Salt Lake City, Utah Temple. While Lloyd was in basic training in Fort Ord, California, Raema lived in a nearby apartment, but she returned to work at the Bank of Vernal until he was released from his service in 1955. Then, they moved to Lloyd’s family ranch on Willow Creek, Utah where she and Lloyd had their first two children. After selling the ranch, they returned to Vernal and built their home in Maeser, where they lived for over 57 years and lovingly raised their family of five children.
Raema was a fastidious bookkeeper and used her skills to help in two family businesses, Country Cash and Lloyd’s Shoes. During that time, she was mostly a “stay at home” mom, but when they sold the shoe store, she returned to work at Zions Bank and then The CPA firm, retiring in 1996.
Actively serving in many callings, Raema was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She and Lloyd also served many years in the temple and a genealogical mission from May 2001 to May 2002. Serving the Lord in any capacity was a top priority, and she was a wonderful example of service to anyone in need.
One of the fondest memories of all who knew her was the smell and taste of her cooking and baking; she had a knack for it and blessed the lives of others with it. She also spent countless hours canning and storing the bounty of Lloyd’s garden, which they generously shared.
Raema is survived by her children: Marla (Tim) McDonald, of St. George, Utah; Greg (Bobbie) Hatch, of Durrant, Oklahoma; Kim (Mark) Scharman, of Salt Lake City, Utah; Suzanne (Devin) Bailey, of Vernal; and Lori Hardman, of Vernal; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; siblings: Lylis Anderson, Kathy Reynolds, and Mike Adams.
She is preceded in death by her sweetheart, Lloyd; parents Lawrence and Virginia Adams; brother, Terry Adams; and brothers-in-law Jay Anderson and Cal Dee Reynolds.
In lieu of flowers, the family would like to recommend a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association of Utah at www.alz.org.
