October 26, 1929 ~ August 28, 2014 Reid Herbert Goodrich, age 84, returned to his Father in Heaven's arms on the evening of Thursday, August 28th 2014 at Davis Hospital in Layton Utah, surrounded by his loving wife and children. He passed away due to conditions incident to age. Reid was born October 26 1929 in Maeser Utah to Forrest Odra Goodrich and Persia Ethel McConkie. He rejoins his mother and father and his brothers Forrest, Boyd Larry, Ronald Bob, and Ward E. Goodrich as well as his sisters Ola Tess Lemon, Diane and Edna Gigi Goodrich. Reid served a full time mission for the Lord in the Western States Canadian Mission, and then married Joella Merkley on January 23, 1952 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. He enlisted in the Navy shortly thereafter and served in the office of Naval Intelligence in Seattle Washington and on Guam during the Korean conflict, then received his degrees from the University of Utah in Psychology and History. He worked as an officer on the Salt Lake City police force while attending the U of U, then as a public school teacher, administrator and Director of Special Education counseling children in the Utah and Idaho area public school systems. He was an author of books as well as education programs for gifted and special needs children. He loved the outdoors and spending time there with his family and friends, learning and studying about education, children and especially the gospel of Jesus Christ and his Father in Heaven. Reid is survived by his wife Joella as well as his children Juan (Jennifer), Lisa White (Carl), Bruce (Karen), Brian (Becky) and Amber Anderson (Eric), 19 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, and his brother Charles Jack Goodrich. A viewing will be held in Reid's honor at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary from 6-8pm Tuesday, September 2nd and also one hour before the funeral at the Tridell Utah LDS Chapel on Wednesday September 3rd at 12:00 noon internment immediately following at the Tridell Cemetery with Military Honors provided by American Legion and Utah Nation Guard.www.blackburnvernalmortuary.com
