September 8, 1930 ~ September 24, 2015 Rita Wetemkamp, age 85, of Vernal, passed away September 24, 2015. She lived her entire life in Vernal, graduated from Uintah High School in 1948. She married Jack Kier with whom she had two children, Russell Kier and Shawn Kier Wolfe, who has since passed away. She has one grandchild, Jordan Wolfe. In 1976 she married Dwight Wetenkamp, who passed away in 1991. Rita was a devoted citizen of Vernal for many years and received several honors for her civic duties. Among her many accomplishments, Rita received the Governor's Citizen of the year award, for her outstanding community service in 1982-1988. She served as the president of Vernal Chamber of Commerce, the Dinah Mites, Dinoland Country Club, and the Little Gallery of Arts. She served as Republican Chairperson, and Vice president of the Dinosaur land travel Board. Rita also served on the gardens and Christmas Committee, as vice-present of Dinoland Advertisement Inc., and on the board of the Dinosaur Nature Association. Rita was a member of the P.E.O., Chapter C. She was also the Officer Manger of Dinosaur Inn Best western Motel for sixteen years, in 1991 she was honored as Grand Marshal in Vernal's parade of Lights parade. She was truly a remarkable woman and is loved and missed by her family and friends. Memorial Services will be Friday, June 16, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
