Shelby “Kent” Bentley was born March 7, 1947 in Salt Lake City, UT to Shelby Mickelson Bentley and Ruth Clark Bentley. He passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2023 in his home surrounded by his wife and children.
Kent was raised in Farmington, UT where he later graduated from Davis High School in 1965. He served a two-year mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Southern California, Mission. Continuing his education, he graduated from Utah Technical College.
Kent married Gail Morrell on March 19, 1970 in the Salt Lake City Temple.
He served 2 years in the Army from 1970 – 1972.
Gail passed away in 1994 from Scleroderma.
He married Hazel Marie Van Pelt on September 28, 1996 in the Provo, Temple, their marriage was later solemnized in the Bountiful, Temple on February 8, 1997.
Together they raised 10 children, 4 of his and 6 of hers. Which resulted in 5 teenagers living at home.
Kent worked for Wheeler Machinery for 33 years as a Diesel Mechanic.
Kent had an undeniable faith in the Gospel of Jesus Christ, where he served in many callings including, High Priest Group Leader, Young Men’s Councilor, and many more. His greatest love was serving as an ordinance work in the Vernal, Utah Temple for 13 years. Anyone that knew Kent, knew that he loved people and loved to talk, he never met a stranger.
He is preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister, and 2 step sons.
He is survived by his wife Hazel, children; Timothy (Donalyn) Bentley, Chad (Kelly) Bentley, Andrew (Miranda) Bentley, Betta Bentley (Nephi) Jenks, Robin Johns, Randall Johns, Matthew Johns, Scott (Kim) Johns, 37 grandchildren, and 27 great-grandchildren and Ol Blue.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 30, 2023 at 11 am at the Vernal 1st Ward Chapel (475 West 100 S) with viewings held Sunday, October 29th from 6-8 PM at the Blackburn Mortuary, and Monday, 1 hour prior to service at the Chapel.
Burial will be in the Vernal Memorial Park with Military Honors posted by the American Legion under the direction of Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
