Stella Mae Boren Stocks, age 90 of Vernal, returned home to meet her special loved ones on August 17, 2012. She was born on September 22, 1921 in Vernal, Utah to Alonzo Joseph and Hazel Winnie Robbins Atwood. She married Arthur M. Boren on November 26, 1946 in Elko, Nevada. Their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on August 12, 1952. He passed away November 23, 1980. She then married Arthur Dayton Stocks on June 22, 1988 in Vernal. He passed November 15, 2011. Stella lived her life as a homemaker, business woman, and as a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister and friend to all. She served actively in her LDS faith throughout her life and had numerous callings, including as a service missionary. She was an accomplished poet and genealogist and had a great love for the arts and gardening. Stella traveled throughout her life and at the age of 83, she traveled to Europe. Stella loved Vernal and she blessed the lives of many in her community through her gifts of love and charity for others, with her hand the first stretched out to pull others up. She will always be an icon and a great legacy to the Basin. She impressed many people with her ability to work very hard. Her wit and humor will leave lasting memories for everyone. Stella is survived by her daughters; Betty (Leroy) Kuchler, and Debra (Rudy) Cordova, siblings; Melba Powell, Olen Heddleson, Wanda Lopez, and Blaine Atwood, all of Vernal and Tommy Jo Atwood of Phoenix, Arizona, 8 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, brothers; Melvin Cap, and Willie Clyde, and sisters; Venus Workman, and Madge Briese. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, August 21, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the Glines Stake Center in Vernal with viewings Monday evening from 6-8 at the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary and 1 hour prior to services at the church. Burial will be in the vernal Memorial Park under the care and direction of the Blackburn Vernal Mortuary.
