Verdin Durrell Chivers died Saturday, April 6, 2013 in Grand Junction, Colorado. He was born April 26, 1926 in Vernal, Utah, and the third of seven children to Clyde and Ina Chivers. Durrell graduated from Uintah High School in 1944. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his active duty in the Army, Durrell earned his Doctorate of Chiropractic Medicine from Los Angeles Chiropractic College. He practiced Chiropractic Medicine in California, Colorado and Utah. Durrell met his future wife, Fran Van Haren, in California. They were married in 1946 and later divorced. Durrell and Fran had three sons and one daughter. Durrell was a voracious reader and never ceased to study and acquire knowledge. He had many passions, not the least was his love of golf. Durrell loved the mountains, streams and lakes surrounding his home town of Vernal, Utah. We all have wonderful memories of our times spent with him hunting, camping, fishing and exploring new places. Besides his family Durrell had great affection for his many friends and he treasured their friendships. He had numerous nieces and nephews who loved him very much and he loved them. He faithfully attended their weddings and other events in their lives whenever he possibly could. Durrell is survived by sons Curt (Joanne) of Murrieta, CA, Howard, (Michele) of Anchorage, Alaska and Arbrey (Gabriela) of Grand Junction, Colorado, sisters Peggy Goodrich and Angala Manning of Vernal, Utah, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter Christine, brothers Arbrey John and Boyd D. Chivers and sister Erma Semus. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
