William Alvin (Steve) Stephenson was born July 13,1940 and passed away August 25,
2023. He was born in Loa, Utah to Riley Stephenson and Burl Potter Stephenson. After
graduating from high school, Steve joined the United States Navy, honorably serving
four years during the Vietnam war. He then attended BYU in Provo, Utah where he met
his eternal sweetheart, Ruth Murdock. They were married in the Logan, Utah temple on
April 9, 1965. Following their marriage they moved to Monterey, California where he was
a Firefighter and EMT. All six of their children were born there. In 1980 they moved to
Vernal, Utah where they remained for the next 39 years.
Steve was a friend to all. He helped countless people throughout his life. His wife and
children never knew when a new friend would come for dinner or to stay the night(s). He
never turned his back on someone in need. He had a fierce testimony of his Savior,
Jesus Christ. He loved the temple and serving there.
Steve was an avid hunter and loved guns. He would spend hours cleaning and talking
guns. In California he loved to scuba dive and went often. Steve was also quite an
artist. He loved to draw. His kids remember growing up to his love of music and
dancing.
Steve loved his family. He was a devoted husband and father. His children say he loved
his grandkids more.
Steve suffered from Alzheimer’s disease for the past 13 years. As his Alzheimer’s
progressed, his wife, Ruth, lovingly cared for him. In September of 2022, he was
admitted to the George A. Wahlen VA home in Ogden, UT for more care. The family
thanks the staff for their amazing care for him. Steve was always happy and humming.
The love and respect Steve had for his wife continued to show even as his disease
progressed. He always knew Ruth, even up to the week before he passed. His face
would light up when she walked in.
He is survived by his eternal, beloved wife, Ruth, and all six children: Riley (Nancy) of
Phoenix, AZ; Amy of Garland, UT; Shane (Cyndy) of Orlando, FL; Jill (Felix) of Vernal,
UT; Jeni (Robin) of Weston, ID; Misty (Mike) of Bella Vista, AR. He is also survived by
many grandchildren and great grandchildren, and his sister, Sherma Albrecht (West
Valley, UT) as well as many nieces and nephews.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and his grandson, Alex
James Collier.
